Pura Vida Divers has been the proud sponsors of Phil Foster Park for two years now! With your help, we have collected over 600 lbs of trash and recycling from Phil Foster Park this past year.
To celebrate our second anniversary, we will be conducting a Phil Foster Park Adpot-A-Park Cleanup on Saturday, July 18th at 9:00am in conjunction with the 5th Annual Southeast Florida Reef Cleanup. We are also proud to announce that Boynton Beach Dive Center and the Sea to Shore Alliance will be joining us. As a special thank you to all that participate, Chipotle Mexican Grill will be rewarding volunteers with delicious food! Please remember to bring a reusable water bottle with you for refreshments throughout the cleanup. This will help cut down on the amount of trash created during this event.
This is a FREE event! Divers, snorkelers, surfers, and beach goers are all welcome to attend.
All divers need to confirm participation before the day of the event and will be required to bring their diver certification card, a dive flag float, and a timing device as well as sign an Underwater Liability Release Form. All non-divers participating in the Phil Foster Park Adopt-A-Park Cleanup will be required to sign a liability release at the registration table.
To thank everyone for participating, everyone who turns in a completed data card will have their trash weighed and will be entered to win prizes in two different categories:
1.) The most trash collected by weight. The individual who collects the most trash (by weight) will be our winner and may choose their prize. Pura Vida Divers will be donating a FREE boat pass for a 2-tank dive trip aboard Sirena, or a half day surfboard or paddle board rental.
2.) The most collected item by number of same items collected (ie, cigarette butts, straws, plastic bottles, fishing line, ect.). The individual who collects the most of a single item will be our second winner and will receive a prize from Boynton Beach Dive Center. The prize will be announced soon.
Plus, all divers who conduct their cleanup underwater will receive a FREE air fill or air tank rental when they turn in a completed data card from Pura Vida Divers or Boynton Beach Dive Center (Only one voucher per diver and the diver much collect their own voucher in person).
Itinerary for the day:
9:00am: Meet at the picnic tables near the playground for registration and cleanup supplies. We will provide cleanup materials and hand out goodie bags to those who attend while supplies last. Supplies are limited, so be sure to get there early.
9:30am: The staff will conduct an underwater/beach cleanup and safety briefing. All participants must attend the briefing before beginning their cleanup. To ensure that no animals are harmed or removed from their environment, specific directions will be given as to what is permitted debris to remove from the water, and how to check if an animal is or could use a questionable item as a home. To further insure that the creatures of Phil Foster Park are not being removed, all removed debris will be thoroughly checked by staff before being discarded.
10:30am High tide: Many divers will begin their dive at the end of the underwater/beach cleanup and safety briefing. You may join them or start your dive whenever you feel the most comfortable.
12:00pm: Please bring your collected trash and completed data cards back to the picnic tables. Everyone who turns in a completed data card will have their trash weighed and reviewed for a chance to win prizes!
12:30pm: Chipotle Mexican Grill is sponsoring this event and will be providing food for those who participate in the cleanup. After you turn in your completed data cards and collected trash, enjoy some delicious food donated Chipotle. To thank Chipotle and the Sea to Shore Alliance for their support please share your cleanup photos with them by using #take4sea2shore when posting to social media outlets. Food is limited and for cleanup volunteers only.
Please RSVP by Wednesday, July 15th. This will help to ensure that we have enough cleanup supplies for everyone attending.
