Have you ever been tempted to venture into the depths and explore underwater shipwrecks?
You can learn how to safely dive inside wrecks as a PADI Wreck Diver.
Wreck treks in the Palm Beaches offer some incredible shipwrecks to explore, like the Ana Cecilia. But venturing inside a wreck requires a certain mindset and unique skills.
Every shipwreck has a story. Like the wrecks in the Palm Beaches, some are sunk intentionally. They are used as artificial reefs, dive sites, and habitats for marine creatures like goliath grouper to gather on.
Others sink because of storms, wars, or accidents. Whatever the case, divers are drawn to explore underwater shipwrecks. We want to uncover their secrets, learn their stories, and discover what may be lurking inside.
WHY EXPLORE UNDERWATER SHIPWRECKS?
You know every wreck has a history. Diving in and around sunken shipwrecks is like peeking into the past through a porthole.
Did you know the four wrecks on Governor’s Riverwalk were seized because they were once drug smuggling vessels? Or that the first wreck sunk in the Palm Beaches was the Mizpah in 1968? It used to be a Greek luxury liner.
These are just some of the histories of the wrecks in the Palm Beaches. If you get the chance to explore underwater shipwrecks as a PADI Wreck Diver, you experience these histories firsthand. Doing so safely requires a certain set of skills, especially if you want to go inside the confined spaces of a wreck.

PAIR PADI WRECK DIVER WITH DEEP AND NITROX
Most of the wreck dives in the Palm Beaches are deep, between 70-90ft. Often as a PADI Wreck Diver, your body is under greater pressure, you consume air faster, and you have an increased chance of experiencing narcosis. You can prepare to dive deeper on wrecks with courses like the Deep Diver or Enriched Air Specialties.
Nitrox can allow you to stay at planned depths for longer. You just need to dive with the right enriched air mixture for your maximum depth. You can make the most of your wreck dives by diving with the ideal Nitrox blend.
By earning these certifications, you’re also preparing yourself to have the best experience of diving with goliath grouper. Find out more about what you need to know to dive with goliaths.
