The IBUM – Intermediate Hyperbaric Chamber Technician course is a 5-day class designed for those seeking advanced knowledge in diving medicine, or those seeking to become IBUM Advanced Hyberbaric Technicians and chamber operations professionals. This certification includes comprehensive coverage of all the in-water skills needed to take care of a victim of Decompression Sickness (DCS), as well as an in-depth understanding of the causes of DCS. You will also learn to perform a rapid neurological assessment to recognize and evaluate Decompression Sickness. Finally, you will gain a working knowledge of the treatment tables used in hyperbarics and diving disorders.
The class includes hands-on chamber operations with a portable hyperbaric chamber unit. Divers must hold an Advanced Open Water certification or higher, and have good working knowledge of diving laws.
Recreational Applications: This course will help divers develop a thorough understanding of the causes, symptoms and treatment of Decompression Sickness. It will teach recreational and technical divers essential skills needed to care for victims of DCS. Participants do NOT need any prior medical or professional diving certifications or experience to benefit from the knowledge gained during this class.
Professional Applications: This program gives attendees a start in their hyperbaric career at a basic level. It is ideal for those working in a hyperbaric facility that need to gain work experience prior to obtaining the IBUM Advanced HT or IBUM CHRN certification. Participation in this program will show administrators that the candidate is serious about pursuing their career in hyperbaric medicine.
Course Dates: November 2 – 7*
*This course may be extended by an additional day to accommodate groups larger than 10 students.
