This month, fine-tune your skills underwater. Master the art of perfect buoyancy with the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty.
Good buoyancy is one of the most important skills we learn as divers. It allows us to feel comfortable and confident underwater. Learn to glide and hover effortlessly while diving. Doing so optimizes your air consumption and movement beneath the surface.
Having great buoyancy protects the reef too because we are less likely to contact it.
Photographers – get close to jaw-dropping marine life for that perfect picture. Wreck divers – avoid silt-outs in confined spaces. New divers – gain the confidence to hover above the reef, knowing you will not damage it. Seasoned divers – take your skills to the next level.
Wondering how perfect buoyancy can benefit your time underwater? Let’s go on a dive!
MASTER THE ART OF PERFECT BUOYANCY
The dive guide pauses, hovering close to a coral formation. They are gracefully suspended a foot above the reef with ease. Their eyes are wide with enthusiasm. They eagerly point to something small that you can’t quite see. They must have spotted something good.
Thoughts of rare and exciting marine life flood your mind. Could they have found an ornate Florida Regal Seagoddess? Or perhaps a bright, orange-spotted Flamingo Tongue. Maybe even an elusive Scorpionfish blending in with the reef. Images of slugs, cleaner shrimp, and exotic macro life run wild in your head. You exhale to get a closer look.
As you sink, you feel lopsided. You are getting close to the reef and are having trouble correcting your trim. Oops, maybe you misjudged. Your fins hit the bottom and sand billows up, clouding the visibility. You feel awkward in your gear. Even more so, you are frustrated you missed the cool creature.
Oh, buoy.
Listen, we’ve all been there. No one starts diving and is immediately a pro. It takes patience, practice, and top-tier guidance. Master the art of perfect buoyancy. Work with an instructor to fine-tune your skills. Any diver benefits from excellent buoyancy. Find out what the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty is all about.
IN THE PEAK PERFORMANCE BUOYANCY COURSE
Upgrade from buoyancy beginner to master. The specialty focuses on buoyancy exercises and skills you practice with your instructor.
By the end of the course, divers have mastered:
- Proper weighting – determine the ideal weight to dive with
- Proper trim – balance your weight system throughout your gear
- Streamlining gear
- Hovering in any position
To master the art of perfect buoyancy, divers focus on weight, trim, and breathwork. First, find the ideal weight to dive with. You might need to alter your weight in different conditions. Then, disperse the weight evenly across your gear. Everyone’s body is different, so weight systems will work differently for each diver. Finally, streamline your gear. Hone in on that perfect horizontal trim.
Success in these areas will not only make you a buoyancy master but will also help with air consumption and easier movement underwater.
Whether you are a new diver looking to expand your skills or an experienced diver who wants to fine-tune your technique, everyone benefits from the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty. Divers only need to be at least 10 years old and have a minimum of a (Junior) Open Water Diver rating to sign up.
