Covering less then one percent of the ocean floor, coral reefs support about 25 percent of all marine creatures. The total diversity of life found in, on, and around all coral reefs is estimated to be around 2 million species. Which makes the coral reef ecosystem more bio diverse then the tropical rainforest of the Amazon or New Guinea. But did you know that this remarkable ecosystem is under threat?
In honor of our coral reef ecosystem and coral reefs world wide, Pura Vida Divers will be hosting a Social Night on March 21st, 2014 to raise awareness for this incredible environment. This is a FREE event!
It doesn’t matter if you’re a diver, surfer or beach goer, everyone is welcome to attend. So join us for an evening of socializing, delicious food, and the biodiversity of life here in our own backyard.
Andrea Whitaker, REEF Fish Surveyor and Pura Vida staff member, will be presenting. Her presentation focuses on the importance to conserve marine ecosystems by educating, enlisting and enabling divers and other marine enthusiasts to become active ocean stewards and citizen scientists.
Our team will be providing drinks and appetizers, and guests are welcomed to bring a small covered dish of food to the Social Night. This way everyone is sure to have their favorite dish. This is not a requirement! If you are unable to bring a dish, please do not let the dish prevent you from coming.
In addition to Andrea’s presentation, we will be announcing the winner of the 2014 Underwater Scavenger Hunt and we NEED YOU to help us select the finalists for our photo contest. Guests attending our March Social Night will select the top five fan favorite photos to be posted to Facebook Saturday morning at 8am for a vote. The photo with the most votes as of Sunday, March 23rd at midnight will be our winning photo and will become our Facebook cover photo for the remainder of March. The photographer of the winning image will receive a FREE 2-tank boat pass for Sirena.
