Sea cows, floaty potatoes, chubby mermaids. Just like the critters themselves, even the nicknames for these fascinating marine mammals are cute! Did you know that manatees nurse their young? Or that they can grow up to 13 feet long, and weigh more than 3,500 lbs?
As adorable as they may be, Florida manatees are also in danger.
With a population of just over 8,000, manatees are listed as a threatened species under the federal Endangered Species Act. And right now, they are experiencing an unusually high mortality event along Florida’s East coast.
Join us to learn how you can help save Florida manatees! Enjoy delicious hors d’ouvres, beer, and wine as you learn from Amber Howell, a biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), during this in-person event.
Find out what’s impacting their health throughout Florida’s East coast. Understand the underlying causes of their high mortality event. Learn how to identify sick or injured manatees, and how you can get involved to help conservation efforts.
Attendees will also have the first chance to save a spot in our Manatee Snorkeling Trip, coming this fall!
