Great underwater conditions today but a little rough on the surface . Vis today is 60 feet on the Breakers reef and seas picked up to a sloppy 2-4ft with some east winds. Surface (air) temperatures continue warming into the high 80's and 90's during the day with 70's mostly at night. We are well into summer!

Turtles, turtles everywhere! Turtle season officially opened on March 31st, but has really ramped up this June. Divers now frequently spot mating loggerheads on the surface and lots of momma turtles on the reefs waiting for nightfall to drop some eggs on our beaches. Can't wait until later this summer to see all of the new loggerhead and green hatchlings! This year was a good year for leatherback nesting...the mommas are done laying eggs but there are still some hatchlings waiting to pop out of their nests in the next few weeks. Leatherbacks usually start nesting in early April, but nesting really ramps up in May and early June.

With summer here, Big Creature season is officially over! However, divers in the last month reported a 10 ft Dusky shark and an 8 ft Lemon shark on Elevator Shaft, and a 14ft Great Hammerhead on Paul's. Dusky sharks are a protected species in Florida and we usually don't see them when diving...what a treat for the divers! With all of these shark sightings make sure you keep your eyes peeled as you're cruising along the ledges for the unexpected visitors.

It's also time to keep your eyes open for the smaller creatures now. We have a new frogfish on Elevator Shaft and it's unbelievable! With all of the growth covering it's body, you can barely see it...even when it's right in front of you. I'll try to post the picture later today at www.divewestpalmbeach.com so see if you can find it! FYI...www.divewestpalmbeach.com is a newly created dive forum for our area. Please check it out and share photos, stories, conditions reports, environmental concerns, etc. It's a great way for everyone who loves diving here to stay connected and up-to-date on local dive topics.

With the beautiful weather, the Blue Heron Bridge dive visibility peeked this past weekend. Divers continued to spot amazing creatures this week...23 eagle rays circling the bridge last Saturday morning! With high tide during mid-day this week, the bridge offers a great lunch break experience. Contact us if you would like to rent a couple of tanks!

Lobster season ended as of March 31st, so you hunters will have to wait again until July 30th and 31st for mini-season...and spots are already filling up, so hurry with your bookings if you want in on the action!

Until the next posting, safe diving and have a great end of June! 4th of July is just around the corner...can you believe it!
